I am passing on to you a gift given to me years ago that has contributed greatly and wonderfully to my life. Many of you have received this gift before, and I am offering it to you again this year. This gift comes free and like many gifts, it is useless unless you use it. This gift is also very expensive and actually cost Jesus Christ His life, which was His pleasure. He died on the cross for our sins in order to bring us to God (John 3:16, John 1:12, 1 John 5:11–12)

This gift comes in the way of a challenge in order to help us truly receive the gift of daily relationship with Him. The gift comes free, but it must be received and with its responsibilities.

The gift is this, a close and meaningful daily walk with the Lord. This enjoyment of the gift is grounded in the “THIRTY-DAY CHALLENGE.”

The “Challenge” is this: that we commit ourselves to meet with our Lord Jesus Christ every morning for thirty straight days by reading a portion of Scripture and asking the Lord to give us something to apply to our lives that day. If we miss a day, then we start over until we meet with Him for thirty straight days. If we do this, chances are we’ll never quit, and our lives will continue to grow in our Lord Jesus Christ. During this special time, look for an answer to this question. “What does He want me to be, feel, or do today?” Then write out in a sentence what He wants for us to be that day, as specifically as we can. Then, as we pray for the day and our cares, ask God to help us apply the truth that we learned that morning from His Word.

That is a pretty exciting challenge, isn’t it? The payoff is all that we truly desire. It presses us to listen to Him, to obey Him, and to enjoy His fellowship. John 15:5 is one of many places in Scripture that He promises abundance in our relationship with Him: “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.”

Many of you are on your 500th straight day or more. My gift to you is the “thirty-day challenge.” To start today and carefully enjoy thirty straight days with the Lord with renewed vigor, sensitivity, and desire to obey. Then keep on going with renewed understanding. You will be blessed to bless others.

You might want to take a paragraph or two of Psalm 119 each day until you finish the Psalm.

Each time this Psalm mentions something about the Word of God, write it down. It will enrich you and give you abundant reasons to continue your thirty-day challenge for the rest of your life.
