I have been thinking of the Lord’s command to love (it is about time) and thought you might enjoy some thoughts on it that might stimulate some much better thoughts on your part for your staff and leaders and pets...(the pets have generally already put love into practice.)

Here is the command:  “A new command I give you:  Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”

Key phrase is “as I have loved you.”

It probably starts with

  1. His mother being a godly woman and praying for him even before He was born. Prayer was always such a great importance and practice in His life.  That was one of the ways that His mother “loved him”.

  2. His first move was spending 40 days in the wilderness fasting and seeking His Father’s purposes for who He is, who He is to become, and what he was to say and do. That was one of the great ways “He loved us.”

  3. Mark 1:35 “Very early in the morning…”  Jesus sought His Father’s will on what He was to do and be….”very early” is the key phrase.  Just think if He had not gotten up “very early” the crowd might have caught Him before He met with His Father.  He still might be at Nazareth healing people and casting out demons. We would still be dead in our sins.

  4. “Leaving Nazareth, he went and lived in Capernaum, which was by the lake in the area of Zebulon and Naphtali – to fulfill what was said through the prophet Isaiah”:  Isaiah 9:1,2  The first thing He did was in response and obedience to the written Word of God.  He set the pace for us. The Word showed Him how to love us.

  5. We can follow Him through His times with people and feel His love for everyone: the rich, the poor, the well and the sick.  We see Him touching a leper before He healed Him. We see Him forgiving a person before he repents. We see Him raising a person from the dead while he was still dead.

In following Jesus, representing Him and letting Him lead us means giving first and without request or reward. This is living!

Application for Young Life leaders is the best.

Our ministry is to take the love of Christ to those that don’t belong to Him nor, at the point do they want to.  We go as Christ goes in us. To love the sinner and to those that live without hope. We go. We take the first step.  We go where we don’t belong. We go where we aren’t accepted. We touch and hold “unclean” people. We love as Christ loved. This is living.  “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” (Who can say that promise to us that can produce as Jesus can?) To whom shall we go if it is not Jesus Christ?
